  • Drive Duration: Minimal within city (sightseeing by car)

  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

  • Highest Altitude: Thimphu – 2,320 m

  • Accommodation: Hotel in Thimphu

After breakfast at your hotel, begin a full Thimphu sightseeing tour to explore the cultural and spiritual highlights of the capital.

Start with Tashichho Dzong, a grand fortress-monastery that houses Bhutan’s central government and monastic body. Its beautiful architecture, painted wooden galleries, and serene courtyards offer a glimpse into Bhutanese tradition. Next, visit the Folk Heritage Museum, showcasing rural Bhutanese life, and the School of Traditional Arts (Zorig Chusum), where students preserve 13 traditional crafts, including painting, weaving, and wood carving.

In the afternoon, continue to the Buddha Dordenma, one of the largest Buddha statues in the world, perched atop a hill overlooking Thimphu Valley. End the day with leisure time in Thimphu’s local markets, perfect for shopping for handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

After breakfast, we start our drive to Dochu la pass (3088m/ 10130 ft) to observe the beautiful Druk Wangyal Chortens covered in colourful prayer flags. These chortens honour His Majesty the 4th Druk Gyalpo and the Bhutanese army for the successful war operation in the southern region of Bhutan in 2003.

You can observe the spectacular views of Masagang (7158m), Jejegangphugang (7158 m), Terigang (7060m), Kangphugang (7170m ), Zongphugang (7060m), Tsendagang (6960m) and Gangkar puensum (7497m), the highest peak in Bhutan.

We then drive back to Paro, from where we follow the Wang Chhu and Paro Chhu river valleys, before arriving at Paro town. We also visit the Simtokha Dzong, constructed by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel in 1629. The dzong is one of the oldest in the valley and was specifically built to protect travellers from an evil spirit in the region.

We also visit the Ta Dzong, which was initially built as a Watchtower, but now is a spectacular National Museum. The national museum has many antique thangka paintings, weapons & armour, and other historical artifacts.

We end our day by visiting the Rinpung Dzong (“ fortress of the heap of jewels ”). Many beautiful wall paintings illustrating Buddhist teachings like the wheel of life, the life of Milarepa, Mt. Sumeru, Mandala, and others will amaze you. We then take a stroll around the city in the evening. We will stay overnight at a hotel in Paro.

After breakfast, we will visit the famous Taktsang Monastery through a strenuous hike. The total time taken is around 5 hours for a round trip walk. Perched on a cliff at 900m, the Taktsang monastery is the cultural icon of Bhutan known all over the world.

Legend has it that the tantric Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a flaming tigress and meditated at this monastery. Hence, the monastery is also known as Tiger’s Nest monastery. Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal visited the sacred monastery in 1646.

Bhutanese make sure they visit the holy place once in a lifetime. The beautiful view of the entire Paro valley from the viewpoint is amazing. Our “ Bhutan tour 4 nights 5 days ” comes to an official end in Paro. We return to our hotel in the evening and stay overnight.
