Depart from Kathmandu in the morning via a short flight to Paro. Upon arrival, meet your guide and driver, then enjoy a scenic drive to Thimphu, Bhutan’s vibrant capital. The drive offers views of terraced fields, river valleys, and traditional villages, perfect for photography along the way.
Check in to your hotel and relax after your journey. Later, explore Thimphu town, including:
-
Memorial Chorten: A prominent spiritual landmark dedicated to the Third King of Bhutan.
-
Local Market: Browse handicrafts, textiles, and souvenirs.
After breakfast, embark on a scenic drive from Thimphu toward Phobjikha Valley, passing through the Dochula Pass (3,100 m / 10,170 ft). Stop to admire the 108 memorial chortens and panoramic views of the Himalayan range—perfect for photography.
Continue to Punakha, the former capital, and drive through lush river valleys, rice terraces, and traditional villages before reaching Phobjikha Valley, home to the endangered Black-Necked Cranes. Check in to your lodge, then take a leisurely evening walk in the serene valley, absorbing the peaceful ambiance.
Today is the highlight of the tour: attending the Black-Necked Crane Festival. Witness vibrant traditional dances, rituals, and cultural performances as locals welcome the migratory cranes. Your guide will explain the significance of the ceremonies and Bhutan’s efforts to protect these majestic birds.
In addition, enjoy guided birdwatching in the valley to spot the endangered Black-Necked Cranes. Visit Gangtey Monastery, perched above the valley, offering panoramic views and insights into Bhutanese monastic life.
After breakfast, enjoy a morning walk or short excursion in Phobjikha Valley, capturing final views of the cranes and surrounding landscapes. Visit Gangtey Monastery if not done on Day 3, and explore local villages to experience traditional Bhutanese life.
Drive back to Paro, passing through scenic countryside and Punakha. Check in at your hotel and spend the evening at leisure—stroll around Paro town or relax at the lodge.
After breakfast, enjoy a morning sightseeing in Paro if time allows. Visit Rinpung Dzong, a historic fortress and monastery, and Paro Ta Dzong, the National Museum showcasing Bhutanese art and heritage.
