Itinerary

Kick off your journey with an epic flight from Kathmandu to Paro (about 1 hour, with Himalayan views if you’re lucky!).

After landing at Paro International Airport, you’ll be greeted by cool mountain air and Bhutan’s iconic traditional architecture in every direction. Settle into your hotel, then head out to explore the majestic Rinpung Dzong, a fortress-meets-monastery that looks straight out of a movie set. Pop into the National Museum next for a quick crash course in Bhutanese culture and artistry. Wind down with a walk through Paro town—grab local snacks, meet friendly locals, or shop for handwoven crafts.

Fuel up with breakfast, then hit the road for a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Paro to Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu. Along the way, you’ll cruise through lush valleys and riverside views—perfect Insta moments guaranteed.

Once in Thimphu, head straight to the towering Buddha Dordenma, a gigantic golden statue watching over the city with serious zen energy. Next, visit the impressive Tashichho Dzong, a fortress that doubles as the king’s office and the seat of Bhutan’s spiritual leaders. Wrap up the day exploring funky cafés, local handicraft stores, and laid-back markets in town—Thimphu has a cool mix of tradition and chill city life.

Today’s all about soaking up the local vibe. Start at the Memorial Chorten, a spiritual hub where locals come to pray and spin giant prayer wheels—perfect for people-watching and culture snaps. Then swing by the Institute for Zorig Chusum, where young artists learn Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts (think: painting, woodcarving, and even mask-making—super TikTok content-worthy).

Explore the Folk Heritage Museum to peek into Bhutanese home life from centuries past. Got energy to spare? Hike up to Cheri Monastery for fresh mountain air and views that’ll reset your soul. End your day wandering downtown Thimphu—grab momos, shop for yak wool scarves, or just relax with a cup of butter tea.

Time to hit the road again—this time to the lush Punakha Valley. The 3-hour drive is broken up by a must-stop at Dochula Pass (3,100m), where 108 white chortens shine against panoramic views of the snow-capped Himalayas—one of the most epic sunrise spots in Bhutan.

After soaking in the views, descend into subtropical Punakha, the former capital. Your main stop today: the jaw-dropping Punakha Dzong, sitting right at the meeting point of two rivers. It’s a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture and photo gold. Want a little more? Take a chill walk through rice paddies to Chimi Lhakhang, the quirky “Fertility Temple” known for its offbeat blessings.

After breakfast in the peaceful Punakha Valley, you'll make your way back to Paro—this 4–5 hour drive is packed with lush forests, river views, and charming villages, so keep your camera handy!

Once in Paro, you’ll visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples where the spiritual energy feels almost electric. Spend the afternoon unwinding: browse for last-minute souvenirs, enjoy a hot stone bath, or sip locally brewed ara (Bhutanese rice wine) with your guide. It’s your last night in Bhutan—make it count with a cozy dinner and some stargazing if skies are clear.

Today’s the grand finale: an early morning hike to the legendary Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang), clinging to a cliff 900 meters above the Paro Valley. The 2–3 hour hike is as rewarding as the destination—forests, prayer flags, and views that'll blow your mind.

After visiting the monastery and grabbing some well-earned tea at the cliffside café, descend back to Paro for lunch and a quick refresh. Then it’s time to say tashi delek (goodbye) as you head to Paro Airport for your flight back to Kathmandu, passing over the snow-draped Himalayas one last time.
