This medium-paced tour is ideal for first-time visitors looking to discover iconic sites like Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and the lively Barkhor Street bazaar, while also venturing out to the serene monasteries of Drepung and Sera. Experience ancient Tibetan culture, sacred architecture, and awe-inspiring mountain panoramas, all while staying in comfortable, centrally located hotels.

Itinerary

After a scenic flight over the majestic Himalayas (including aerial views of Everest and other towering peaks), you’ll land at Lhasa Gonggar Airport. Our representative will warmly welcome you and assist with your transfer to the hotel in the heart of Lhasa city. The rest of the day is kept free for rest and acclimatization. Take a gentle evening stroll around your hotel area or sip on Tibetan butter tea, but avoid strenuous activity as your body adjusts to the high altitude. Enjoy your first night in the spiritual capital of Tibet.

Begin your cultural exploration with a guided visit to the iconic Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama and one of Tibet’s most revered landmarks. Climb its ancient staircases to explore the richly decorated chapels, sacred stupas, and spectacular hilltop views overlooking Lhasa.

After a relaxing lunch, continue to the spiritual heart of Tibet – the Jokhang Temple. This revered site is a center for pilgrimages, and you’ll witness devoted Tibetans circling the temple on the Barkhor Kora circuit. Afterwards, immerse yourself in local life along Barkhor Street, a vibrant marketplace where you can shop for prayer flags, Tibetan jewelry, and unique handicrafts.

Begin the day with a visit to Drepung Monastery, once the largest monastery in the world and home to over 10,000 monks in its prime. Located on the slopes of Mount Gephel, Drepung’s white buildings gleam in the sunlight, and its sprawling courtyards and assembly halls offer deep historical insight into Tibetan Buddhism.

After lunch, head to Sera Monastery, famous for its monk debating sessions. Watch monks clad in traditional red robes engage in lively debates on Buddhist philosophy in the courtyard – a captivating and energetic ritual that’s both spiritual and intellectual.

Embark on a full-day scenic drive to the stunning Yamdrok Lake (4,441 m), one of the three sacred lakes of Tibet. Depart from Lhasa after breakfast and enjoy a breathtaking journey through rugged highlands and snow-capped Himalayan peaks. As you climb to the Kamba La Pass (4,794 m), your first panoramic view of the turquoise waters of Yamdrok Lake will unfold – a truly unforgettable sight.

Spend time walking along the lakeshore, taking photos, and admiring this pristine body of water surrounded by dramatic landscapes. On clear days, you can even spot Mt. Nojin Kangtsang (7,191 m) in the distance. Packed lunches or a meal stop at a local guesthouse will be arranged.

After breakfast at your hotel, enjoy some final moments in the spiritual city of Lhasa. Depending on your flight schedule, you may have a short opportunity for last-minute shopping or a gentle walk around the hotel area.

You will then be transferred to Lhasa Gonggar Airport for your onward journey, taking with you unforgettable memories of Tibet’s sacred sites, vibrant culture, and breathtaking landscapes.
